There seem to be a lot of questions around Jabber at the moment, which is confusing as there are several products called Jabber that offer different functionality.
I’ll try and make some sense of the options:
Jabber for Windows / Jabber for Mac – These are Presence/IM clients, with softphone and video capability. They work as clients to Cisco Unified Presence, replacing Unified Personal Communicator (CUPC), or clients to Cisco’s Webex Connect cloud service. It has been announced that this will be offered free of charge to CUCM customers for Presence and IM only, and not including any hardware. This was announced here: http://blogs.cisco.com/collaboration/50-million-cisco-ip-phones-and-jabber-instant-messaging-im-for-everyone/ Product data sheet for Windows is here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps6836/ps12511/data_sheet_c78-704195.html
Jabber Video for TelePresence – What used to be called Movi. Available for Windows and Mac, works with a TelePresence infrastructure, such as VCS Control.
Jabber Mobile – A softphone, presence and IM client for Android and IOS handsets, and Presence/IM only for BlackBerry handsets. Replaces Cisco Unified Mobile Communicator.
Not yet orderable: Jabber for iPad – A softphone and video endpoint for use with either CUCM or VCS Control back end.
Hope this makes sense.
